I think children can start learning scripture a lot earlier than many of us think they can. When my children were very little, an older woman taught a class in which she mentioned teaching your children the ABC's and the Bible at the same time -- Give you toddlers short verses, one for each letter of the alphabet.
X is the only letter that we couldn't find a Bible phrase or verse for, but we got around that by using the word Excellent, as in Excellent is thy name.
When I was somewhere under 10, I had a Sunday School teacher who made learning Bible verses fun. She had us keep a scrapbook, and she gave us very pretty illustrations of scripture that we could decorate and paste into the scrapbook.
I think verses I memorized helped me recognize and come back to the truth when I wandered from it in college. I might not have consciously been thinking about them, but they were in my heart and helped me finally get the big picture.
hey there! Just wanted to let you know I'm back in the blogging world. I've checked on you a few times since my break but not as good of a commenter as you. Hope to see you around!!

I wrote a comment earlier, but not sure if I got it through correctly.
Anyhow, this is precious. I think getting the word into a child's heart at a young age is so wonderful.
I believe so, too! She was precious. Thanks for stopping by the Well this morning!
