Our Plans for February: Agape Love

Memory Verse: 1 John 3:16, “By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.”

Craft: Make Valentines with scriptures about love for neighbors, friends, etc.

Event: Looking/praying for those in need of “this world’s goods” that we can give to. Go to My Father’s House church 2 Saturday’s a month (A church for the homeless in downtown Phoenix, AZ). Look/pray for our enemies (who are they? talk about it) and what we can do to bless them.

Daily activity: Making valentine until Feb.14th then starting Feb. 14th draw out of box one scripture from 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8a with the 16 different descriptions of love. Then we’ll act out, like charades, (or mom will act out with handmade sock puppets) each description.

For the Valentines I'm using this great site I just found DLTK's Crafts for Kids. They have all kids of free printables. I'll be printing up bookmarks in black and white, so the boys can color them, with the scripture on it. Ooo! I'm so excited about this site...there's all sorts of stuff there.
For the sock puppets I just found this site with great instructions for making your own sock puppets.
Scriptures for Valentines:

...love covers all sins. Proverbs 10:12b

God's unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ. John 1:17b

So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. John 13:34

I command you to love each other in the same way that I love you. John 15:12

And here is how to measure it – the greatest love is shown when people lay down their lives for their friends. John 15:13
I command you to love each other. John 15:17

You know how full of love and kindness our Lord Jesus Christ was. Though he was very rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich. 2 Cor.8:9

What is important is faith expressing itself in love. Gal.5:6b

For you have been called to live in freedom – not freedom to satisfy your sinful nature, but freedom to serve one another in love. Gal.5:13

By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 1 John 3:16

Such love has no fear because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of judgment, and this shows that his love has not been perfected in us. 1 John 4:18

This is real love. It is not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. 1 John 4:10

I also plan to read some books to the boys this month in the love theme and about President's Lincoln and Washington, all of which I picked up at my local library- I love libraries!

What about you? What from God's word are you planning to teach your kids this month? If you'd like to share or have a suggestion for me I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment.

Hi Sheila,
This month my older boys & I are memorizing 1 Corinthians 13 ~ often known as the love chapter. For my younger son Colton, we are cutting out construction paper hearts and writing all the characteristics of love that are presented in that chapter.

And of course, they will cover our refrigerator with love!

I'm looking forward to checking out that web-site. I just lost all of my links and am staring over. I am so excited to find your blog and am looking so forward to visiting often.

Blessings & joy,
Lea
